STUDIO DANIEL LIBESKIND WINS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR YONGSAN BUISNESS DISTRICT IN SEOUL, KOREA

“Dream Hub,” a major international competition for the Yongsan business district of Seoul, South Korea was awarded this week to “Archipelago 21,” the proposal by Studio Daniel Libeskind.  The project is made up of over three million square meters of built area and will include world-class shopping, residential neighborhoods, museum, performing arts center, school, extended transit and a multitude of gardens throughout.  The scheduled time-line is 15 years with a construction budget of 27 trillion KRW (20 bil. USD).

At the center of the master plan is a 640m tall landmark tower, which will become an inspiring 21st century symbol for the entire district and for Seoul itself.  Dream Hub as a whole will transform the city into a more livable and architecturally appealing destination for business and for bringing international commerce to the east. 

Studio Daniel Libeskind was chosen from a short list of five major architecture firms.  The other firms leading the competition were Foster + Partners, SOM, Asymptote and Jerde Partnership.
