Editoriale Bresciana Tower

Brescia, Italy

The theme of the Editoriale Bresciana Tower is the reorganization of an important part of the city of Brescia, an area between the historical center and the new extension of the city towards the south.

In every historical city in Italy, complexity unravels throughout the streets, revealing the coexistence of different ages throughout time. This history is what makes a city marvelous - the continuity, the stratification of different values, the ancient archeology, and the analogy and reference between different ages that a city preserves for the future.

The project for Editoriale Bresciana Tower originates from the building's relationship with the historical city of Brescia.  The tower incorporates a dynamic body, composed of two volumes, and a base, with dimensions that reference the same proportions of the existing city. This ingenuitive design allows for the creation of commercial spaces inside the building and the addition of an urban square in front of the Tower offering 20,000 sqm of external public space to the city.

The tower is defined by a soft and transparent surface composed by a double skin façade in glass, ever changing in its articulation. The role of light is the most important dimension of the city. Beautiful cities are the instruments of light, resonating during the day and night, not merely by the light of nature but by artificial light. Each city casts its own individual light and it is this quality that makes a city unique.
