Edwards, Colorado
The Edwards Condominiums project is envisioned as a unique development for Edwards and Eagle County. As an urban infill project, the proposed mixture of multi-family Residential and Commercial space contributes to the vitality of Edwards’ urban core and helps reduce urban sprawl within Eagle County. Its unique location within the city center creates an ideal setting for a Live/Work project.
The Edwards Condominiums project offers a variety of Residential units including employee housing, commercial space, and amenity space, while underground parking minimizes the visual impact of cars on the site. With the availability to local public transportation and being within walking distance to Edwards’ core area, the project provides environmentally sensitive features, as well as a cohesive community encompassing all walks of life.
The design is in perfect harmony with the established, and diverse surrounding architectural community of Edwards, the Vail valley, and the Rocky Mountain region. The established architecture of Edwards is one that is diverse in architectural form and materials and appears to welcome site-specific designs. Our design is one that reflects the diversity of the local and regional Architecture and celebrates the rich diversity of the Edwards community. The building forms and materials take many cues from the site, vis-a-vis, they combine the idea of earth and sky, city and mountain, to create a sculptural composition that is deeply rooted in the community of Edwards.
The natural sloping Colorado terrain sets up a unique relationship between the ground plane and dynamic building forms of the Edwards Condominiums. The buildings appear, similar to the Rocky Mountains, as if they are emerging from the site rather than placed on top. The sloping terrain flows around the buildings creating a variety of open and intimate outdoor spaces. Landscaping and planting will be primarily of natural grasses and trees, will be low-maintenance and require minimal water consumption through Xeriscape design.
The buildings are located strategically on the site so as to take advantage of views in the round and to create a sense of community. The curving buildings are clad primarily in Colorado ‘buff’ sandstone and are accented with ribbons of glass and balconies which reflect the Colorado sky. Green roofs and gardens remind one of the meadows found in the valley. Ascending forms create dynamic movement in the undulating skyline along the site, inspired by the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Due to the site's unique location between the commercial core and residential neighborhoods, the Edwards Condominiums project endeavors to thread the various neighborhoods together.
